Musique -Old and New.
Aug 25th
Couple of things to bring to your collective attentions this week.
Firstly, although its an old article, I recently found this while doing a weekly trawl through my usual sources of musique. Follow the link to find an absolute bumberclarting goldmine.
A hip-hop/rap mix for every year from 1979-2009, each around an hour and a half long, every one mixed tight, packed full of history. Unquantifiably more educational than anything you ever learned in school/college/university/ever, for the ultimate induction I would recommend heading straight for the 1993 mix.
As soon as you’ve finished listening to the 40 odd hours of music above, you should check out Tropics. A debut E.P dropping soon on Planet Mu offers a body of music i found very very easy to get deep in to. The Soft Vision E.P is the soundtrack to a scorching summer that never was, and Tropics is the latest hotly tipped youngster (See Space Dimension Controllerm, Julio Bashmore)to be doing very different, very exciting things with a 120(ish) bpm backbone. Drenched in emotive synths, with beautiful sampled pop vocals, this is easily the best thing i’ve heard all year. Check out ‘Give it Up’ for a prime example.

Night Slugs
Aug 2nd
London based label Night Slugs are doing it harder, better and deeper than most at the moment. Run by DJ’s/Producers/Graphic Designers Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990, Night Slugs own brand of bass heavy house, with various releases touching heavily on dubstep/funky/b-more/grime/kuduro/baile funk, has been making a serious impact on the UK scene for a while now.
The latest release ”That Mystic’, a digital only E.P from New Yorker Kingdom is my personal favourite so far and has been been garnering support at a rapid rate. Soulful R&B vocals blended skilfully with bouncin house rhythms are designed to absolutely smash dancefloors everywhere. Every one is a certified banger, but for me the Wiley Esque synths and ultra crisp production on ‘Fogs’ does it for me. Its available now, so you make sure you keep it legal and grab it from one of the usuals.
Taking elements of various scenes/genres and reconstructing them to make something exciting is what this record and Night Slugs is all about, and its this sort of innovation that keeps the bass centred scene progressing at a healthy rate, despite the inevitable moaning to the contrary. As the borders between all of our favourite sounds become blurred, the need to keep boxing music into set genres (Dubstep being the standard case in point) becomes redundant, and with it the limitations felt by some when making music. When emphasis is placed on innovation, we end up with a result like the Autonomic sound (if you dont know, shame on you.), which is the best thing to happen to music for a very long time.
Thats my two cents!

Goldielocks Podcasts Series
Jul 9th
Goldielocks is an artist we’re very proud to have on our roster at Rush and she’s just released her debut podcast, which is set to be the first in a forthcoming series.
Showcasing her impressive DJ skills as well as a selection thats fresher than the the catch of the day, its rapidly on the way to be being stuck on repeat in the Rush office.
Tastefully blending tunes from hyped artists such as Deadboy, Joy Orbison and Ill Blu with bangers from all time greats such as Aphex Twin and the Digital Mystikz is no easy task, but neither is switching between funky, dubstep, electro, and 2-step, but both tasks are handled as t’were nowt.
You’d be a fool to pass this by, so don’t! Grab it from the link below now!

Space Dimension Controller
Jul 5th
Here at Rush, we deign sometimes to throw our faithful followers a few scraps of sonic bliss down from our lofty Manchester thrones, and this week we’ve got an absolute percy for you.
Coming from hotly tipped Irish youngster Space Dimension Controller, ‘The Love Quadrant’ actually came out last November, and is a slice of absolute, words can barely describe-electro-funkadelic, brilliance. Theres barely any point me trying to convey how much this record makes you need to dance, so just go and listen to it and find out for yourself, right now.
Check out a great interview here, courtesy of Dazed and Confused.

Rinse
Jun 18th
Yesterday was a momentous day for Rinse FM. They were finally awarded a FM license after 16 years of pushing the freshest cuts of new Urban Electronic music to London and the wider world. Rinse’s huge influence over their listeners has been intrinsic with the rise and rise of the grime scene in particular, and artists such as Dizzee, Wiley, Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Stryder owing much of their success to the early support the station gave them.
Congratulations and support for station boss Geeneus overwhelmed the blogosphere yesterday, although some expressed (unfounded) doubts over whether the station would be able to retain its core values, i.e. underground music, new DJ’s, etc in the face of mainstream success.
Hating on Rinse at a time like this smacks of bitterness and leaves a nasty taste in our mouths here at Rush. Absolutely massive respect is clearly due and we dont doubt that Rinse in 2010/11 is going to be even more instrumental in shaping what were going to be dancing to.
Heres to Rinse!

Summer is definately here, the boiling sun masking the mediocrity of the World Cup so far.
We’re thriving off the heat here at Rush, with a load of exciting projects on the go and in the pipeline.
Something we’re really enjoying working on at the moment is a campaign were doing for a new Electronica label out of Nottingham, Oeuvre. They’re definately doing something different, with a DIY attitude and a refreshingly strong lean towards pushing new talent.

Brokebust’s beats are the ones for me, personally.
